Brett Jolly’s Daily Thought (An interesting interview with Morris Day from the Time)

This interview comes in several parts. For today I figured I would post this particular interview just to show how cutthroat the music industry can appear to be. Morris Day was the lead singer of the group, The Time. The time name was actually owned by Prince (at least the recording aspect of it). The Time was a great group, ¬†and Prince was responsible for them achieving the fame they got. When you look at this interview, Morris Day was friends with Prince, but with business restrictions (In other words, it would only go so far business wise). According to Morris Day, Prince was a “control freak.” I had heard this on several occasions. If you listen to Prince’s music, you can actually tell that he controlled just about everything. This is what often happens in the music industry. You could have something fantastic musically. However, if the person in charge of the monetary aspect decides to change your music then there isn’t much that you can do about it, because promotion is the key to putting your music out there. I remember years ago actually ‘meeting’ Morris Day and having a talk with him. Yes, he was a little arrogant (him and Jerome). Considering what he described in his “friendship” with Prince it seems to make a little more sense to me. It is obvious Morris Day didn’t have the control he wanted, and that was due in large part by Prince and his ownership of the group. Prince is gone now, and the Time doesn’t seem to have any pull when it comes to releasing any new material. This is how the music industry is. Aspiring artists need to hear this interview to get an idea of how the industry is. Hopefully you will get something out of this interview. Thank you so much for checking out my Daily Thought and as always I wish you the very best that life has to offer.
