Brett Jolly’s Daily Thought (Surviving this past weekend)

As a musician I often have to pull some incredible hours. Some of the gigs I have to do can be extremely strenuous. This past weekend was a prime example. Of course, I had to do a regular gig on Friday in Penn’s Grove, PA. That was not an problem at all. ┬áPenn’s Grove is less than an hour from me and the time slot for it wasn’t bad at all. However, on Saturday I had to play for the Mid Atlantic Emmy Awards. I have done this event for years, and normally it is held in Philadelphia, but this year they decided to have it in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Pittsburgh is about a 4 and a half hour drive from my house. The gig itself was great, but the main problem was that I had to play at church on Sunday morning starting at 7:30 am. This means that after the Saturday night gig was over (around 12 midnight) I needed to drive back to Philadelphia and play for 2 services at church with “no” sleep whatsoever. The good thing about this was that I had my mind set on it. I also made preparations to deal with it all. In between everything I made sure to rest up as much as I could. No walking around, no excess standing around and no listening to complaints about anything. Everyone else was worried about me driving home late Saturday night. I was actually fine with that. My biggest obstacle came when playing for church (and driving to it). However, I managed to do everything and when it was all finally over I came home, hit the bed and shut my eyes. I woke up on some occasions but I went right back to bed. Today I feel great. Whenever you feel you are about to encounter a stressful time please make sure to plan your rest between your obligations. It makes a huge difference in your outcome. Thank you for checking out my Daily Thought and as always I wish you the very best that life has to offer.
