Brett Jolly’s Daily Thought (Being a “lifer” in prison)

I grew up with a friend of mine, but we parted ways when we both reached teen hood. For the sake of this story I am simply going to call him “Bo.” Bo was fairly intelligent, and he also had musical talent. However, he also fell in with the wrong crowd and eventually got hooked on drugs. At one point he was told that he would either end up in prison or dead. He cried because he knew he had a major problem. One day he went to see a dealer about buying some drugs and the whole transaction went wrong. An altercation erupted and Bo ended up killing his dealer. He was sentenced to time in prison. After he  was placed in jail he got into another altercation with another inmate. Bo ended up killing him as well. Bo is now a “lifer” with absolutely “no chance” of ever getting out. I have tried to reach out to  him. I tried mailing him, but never got a response back from him. I was told that unless his prison number is on the letter chances are he will never receive  it. I will try again. I would like to tell him that no matter what he did I still love him. I also would love to tell his story through song if he is interested. I heard that Bo now has cancer. His life is such a tragic one. While I can’t excuse what he did, I still care about him. His mother died, and he will not be allowed to attend the funeral. This is why it is important to know a lifer’s story. I hope that I will be able to get it. If I do I promise to post it here as well. Yes, Bo is responsible for the things he did, and he doesn’t have anyone else other than himself to blame. I don’t believe in giving up on ‘anyone.’ If you know someone who is a lifer in jail I hope that you realize that he or she needs compassion as well. We all make mistakes. Thank you for checking out my story of Bo and thank you for checking out my Daily Thought. As always I wish you the very best that life has to offer.
