Pop has been around the world. Pop has just about outlasted all of his friends. Pop knew just about “everybody.” On October 15th, my father turned the page and celebrated his 86th birthday. He cannot walk, cannot stand up, his hearing is bad and he is totally bed ridden. His attitude is great (everything considered) and the first thing he said when we told him was “I’m glad I made it.” It is not easy growing older. We used to be so dependent on Pop. He would manage our baseball games, often arriving late after getting off a plane from some place in the world. He would come to the games in his suit, and he would always arrive “just in time” to coach. We won 2 city championships with him. Pop was also a great Gospel singer. He and his group did some great gigs and Pop would tear it up vocally in church. Life goes in cycles, and all the fun you had during the beginning and middle just seems to dissipate at the end. Pop enjoyed his life, and Pop still does, but everything is different now. We have pictures of him with Presidents Carter, Nixon, Ford, Reagan and he even has a picture with Hillary Clinton. He was good friends with Jesse Jackson, Andrew Young, and Martin Luther King. Yes, Pop has had a great life, but it was still our pleasure to see him celebrate his 86th birthday. Thank you, Elton Jolly, for all you have done for us, and we look forward to seeing you the “next” 86 years. Thank you for checking out my Daily Thought, and as always I wish you the very best that life has to offer.
