Brett Jolly’s Daily Thought (“Barry Manilow comes out of the closet”)

Yesterday I saw on social media that some people were “shocked to hear that pop singer Barry Manilow openly revealed that he was living a gay lifestyle. For those of you who don’t know, Manilow rode a wave of successful hits like “Mandy” and “Copacabana (Come to the Copa)” decades ago. Barry is now 73 and has been living with his male companion for the past 39 years. The interesting thing about this story is that Manilow “was afraid” to let his fans know about his lifestyle. He thought that his fans would somehow shun him if they found out. This is a new age, and most people are now used to artists (and other big name celebrities) coming out of the closet. Elton John did it years ago and people are still accepting him. Ricky Martin (“La Vida Loca”) did the same. You can even add Boy George and George Michael to that list as well. There are still more of them out there that may as well “follow suit” and just admit it to their public supporters. Manilow never did strike me as a “lady’s man” so I didn’t think this news should have been a big shock. It shouldn’t make a difference to anyone what his sexual preference is. As long as he made good music then that was all that mattered to me. He admitted that he was originally married to a woman at first but he declared that he was too young back then and wasn’t ready to commit. Even though it took a long while to come out, I applaud him for finally doing so. His story may give others the courage to follow suit. We are all different. Very few of us can help the way we were born. I intend to cast judgment on no one. I wish the best of luck to Mr. Manilow and I honestly believe his career will now be revived after this new revelation. Hopefully the rest of us won’t be judgmental as well. No one is perfect (including you) so please keep that in mind whenever you decide to make any discriminatory statements about anyone. There is variety in life, and it would be great if all of us could just “accept that.” Thank you for checking out my Daily Thought and as always I wish you the very best that life has to offer.
