Brett Jolly’s Daily Thought (“The most intricate arranged song I have ever had to play”)

Someone asked me what was the most difficult arrangement I ever had to play. Well, that honor came “recently” when I had to play this song by Kim Burrell entitled “Father I Stretch.” Even though this song sounds like a slow and simple ballad, it is “anything but…” Mentally you cannot rest on this song because if you do  you will miss a very intricate part. To give you an example: Normally for me to learn a song I will often listen to it maybe “once” and have the “entire” song memorized. That is no joke. Since I have perfect pitch I can usually pick up any song in it’s entirety just by hearing it played only once. For “this” particular song I had to go over it “multiple times” because the arrangement of it was “extremely intricate.” For any of you checking this song out who know music, you will see what I am referring to. Kim is known for tunes like this, and if you don’t play her songs right she is well known for voicing her displeasure. For what we did with her arrangements she was “ecstatic.” Once we finished this song I breathed a “heavy sigh of relief.” Unfortunately, in this video clip my face is blocked by the screen, but  you can see my red bass guitar on “your left side” of the stage. Thank you for checking out my Daily Thought today, and as always I wish you the very best that life has to offer.
